Dani Deahl: The Tastemaker In an industry where women are still the minority, Chicago's Dani Deahl aspires to be an innovator and leader. With a signature style mixing hard-hitting electro with "blog-house," Dani has laid a foundation as a respected worldwide performer with an ever-growing catalogue of original production. While many would stop there, Dani believes that her influence only starts behind the decks. Her resume boasts a continual inventory of side projects in print, radio, television and the studio - a testament to her commitment in redefining the female DJ role within the male dominated industry. When beginning her career seven years ago, Dani made it a point to not only exercise polished technical skills, but also extreme determination (a tactic that quickly grabbed notice). Soon after turning professional at the age of eighteen, the budding novice found herself attending high school during the day and working three to five nights a week at Chicago's busiest clubs all while hosting her own live mix show on Chicago's Energy 92.7/5 FM. Local success became a catapult for international travel as Dani began headlining in front of thousands in locales from Hong Kong to the Cayman Islands. The performances brought features in global magazines like URB, the Chicago Tribune, Mexico's DJ Concept and Asia's BC. With her momentum continually accelerating, Dani decided to then branch out, putting her industry involvement to use in everything from TV to print. Most recently Dani has been churning out tracks on labels like Detour and Hot Sauce Recordings and has been writing for top industry publications/blogs like URB, BPM, Time Out and Kissatlanta.com as well as her own blog, d squared. She is also on the verge of launching her own label in conjunction with famed label Strictly Rhythm (more details to be released in coming weeks). Her consistent industry involvement and sense of musical projection (exercised not only in sets, but in writing and artist scouting for her label) has earned her the nickname of “the tastemaker,” a title that sets her apart from other female DJs. "It's important for me," says Dani, "to not only continue to evolve musically, but to also be a contributor within the electronic music industry; as I stay involved through DJing, production, music journalism and more, I know I'm doing my job.”
