New Ravin Cats!
AP - 12/15/07
SEOUL, South Korea -
South Korean scientists have cloned cats that glow red when exposed to ultraviolet rays, an achievement that could help develop cures for human genetic diseases, the Science and Technology Ministry said.
Three Turkish Angora cats were born in January and February through cloning with a gene that produces a red fluorescent protein that makes them glow in dark. One died at birth, but the two others survived, the ministry said.
The ministry claimed it was the first time cats with modified genes have been cloned.
Scientists from Gyeongsang National University and Sunchon National University took skin cells from a cat and inserted the fluorescent gene into them before transplanting the genetically modified cells into eggs.
The development means other genes can also be inserted in the course of cloning, paving the way for producing lab cats with genetic diseases, including those of humans, to help develop new treatments, the ministry said.
"Cats have similar genes to those of humans," said veterinary professor Kong Il-keun of Gyeongsang National University. "We can make genetically modified cats that can be used to develop new cures for genetic diseases."
Keitaro Kato, a geneticist at Kinki University in western Japan who has cloned fish, said the research could be significant if it eventually helps treat people with hereditary diseases.
"People with genetic disorders usually have to receive treatment throughout their lives that is very hard on them," Kato said. "If these results can help to make their lives easier, then I think it's a wonderful thing."
South Korea's scientific reputation suffered a heavy blow after much-hailed stem-cell breakthroughs by scientist Hwang Woo-suk were found to be faked in late 2005. He remains on trial on fraud and other charges.
The World Domination - Heat
from their space
There is a thin line between genius and madness, and both were involved when 666Val and Ringo Fire approached musical world domination in 2004. Their chosen weapon was their very own over-wound and utopian take on the classic pop duo concept. The World Domination are a bona fide child of the 21st century, fusing German electronic pop music with the megalomaniacal world of T.Rex, ZZ Top and AC/DC's super rock riffs with a vengeance.
The unique combination of electro beats, vintage synths, rock guitars and their own over-the-top attitude, make The World Domination "Gurus of Electro Glam", while gracing this planet with unheard of sweaty and absolutely clubtastic sounds. They spectacularly reveal the shortcuts between proto punk and disco sleaze, glam rock and techno, high gloss and city dump.
Shortly after their first release and during numerous live shows the band is thrilling concert-goers, DJs and other night-chasers all over the world. Be it Berlin, Moscow, St.Petersburg, Halberstadt, Amsterdam or New York City, wherever they appear, nobody defies the bizarre charm of their Dionysus performance. The World Domination act like Genghis Khan's Mongols used to: They take the capital city with them when they depart!
One of their many fans is none other than British Rave and Acid legend Adam Sky (aka Adamski). Together they produced the ultimate electro glam floor filler, "Galactic Lover" (advance single now available on album, "Heat").
French hipster label, KITSUNÉ, released "Galactic Lover" in fall 2006, on the "Maison Kitsuné Compilation" as well as a 12" maxi single. The track is frequently played on BBC Radio One and German neo pop protagonist NORTHERN LITE invite TWD to support them on their 35 dates "Unisex"-tour 2006-2007. The World Domination are irrevocably on their way to the major league of European electro rock.
Now their debut on 1st decade records, as paradoxically consequential as everything the dynamic duo does, "HEAT", is a collection of aggressive pop tracks that are not above a certain catchiness. "HEAT" - the newest manifesto of Electro Glam. Hitting the spot, yet stylistically excessive. "HEAT" is heading for the future, while riding on the ghost train of pop music, on acid, with high beam headlights glaring.

BITCHEE BITCHEE YA YA YA - Fuck Friend

Genre: Electro house/clash
Released: 12 November
Format: 12"
from EXCLAIM.CA
Considering the rate at which songs are infiltrating the internet, it's difficult to distinguish what's real and what's a big hoax. Meet Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya, the artist (or is that artists?) responsible for a couple of hot new songs that are perplexing everyone in the blogosphere. While anyone could be responsible, it appears whoever it is has cool friends in close places, as Bitchee's already whipped up remixes for Bonde Do Role ("Office Boy") and Poney Poney ("Junior"). Even better though are her/their two original tracks: "Fuck Friend" and "Tu Connais le Chanson." Of course, it sounds like your 12-year-old kid sister screwing around with a Casio and GarageBand, but goddammit, this is some catchy and adorable lo-fi shit. I give them till the weekend before someone unmasks these kids.

SHITDISCO - I Know Kung Fu
Label: Fierce Panda
Cat No: NING 206T
Genre: Electroclash
Released: 12 November
Format: 12"
from MUSICOMH.COM
So Klaxons went and won the Mercury Prize, pretty much ensuring any energy and excitement surrounding what was called Nu-Rave all but disappeared. After all, once a scene is recognised at that level by bunch of industry types it begins to lose any relevance to those who love finding the next new thing.
Someone appears to have forgotten to tell Shitdisco, because they are still rocking the party just as hard as they did when they were throwing their legendary house parties back in 2003 at their drummer's flat.
Mind you, I Know Kung Fu has absolutely nothing to do with Nu-Rave. Shitdisco might break out the dance beats, and thundering basslines at will but everything you need to know about this band is right there at the start of the song. The rolling tom-toms and the unhinged vocals that introduce I Know Kung Fu and the taut guitar patterns that drive the song show that Shitdisco have more in common with New Wave than Nu-Rave.
On this kind of form Shitdisco would have sweat dripping off the walls even if you were listening to this on your own on headphones in an industrial freezer. Their mix of dance and punk is infectious and shot through with pure energy. This is no shit disco, it's a fucking festival.
Sam ShepardWhile it’s probably too damning to call them the nearly men of nu-rave, Glasgow’s Shitdisco have never really made the lasting impression their moniker should demand. Their previous offerings have been toe-tapping electro-rockers for sure, but has one of them stuck in the memory for longer than a five-minute booty shake? Nope.
Same old same old with ‘I Know Kung Fu’ (Matrix reference, is it?), which marries snarled vocals with super-speed beats and happy hand-claps. Of course, it all slows for a wee while to allow an audience the opportunity to catch a breath or two, but the reprisal eruption hits heavier and harder second time around. All good, then, but completely forgettable seconds after the last manic shriek from vocalist Joel.
If they’re happy to continue in the not-quite bracket, then Shitdisco can come away from this release content; if, however, they’re seeking that as-yet-elusive breakthrough, this isn’t it.

UK CD pressing of the reissue of this single lifted from the British Electro-Disco quintet's debut album Fantastic Playroom. With the distinctive tones of the outspoken and brilliant Tahita Bulmer - married with the perfect blend of syncopated Pop laced with robust choppy guitar riffs, 'Get Lucky' escalates into a rousing hands-in-the-air chorus to create another slice of mesmerizing Indie Disco Pop that they so effortlessly excel in. Features three versions of 'Get Lucky': Main Version, MSTRKRFT Remix and Who Made Who Mix. Island.
from Manchester evening news
FUNNY how live favourites can lose their charm in the studio. Case in point?
Get Lucky - its saucy beat a sure crowd stirrer in concert halls the land over, but likely to force you into nothing more serious than a rhythmic twitch on record.
Tom Vek meets The Rapture, Get Lucky is laced with all the right disco beats and hipster credentials, but Tahita Bulmer's usually cool drawl is draining and the repetitive rhythms uninspired.

Back & Spine
from Piccadilly Records
"Back And Spine" is the first single to be taken from Danish producer Kasper Bjorn's debut solo album "In Gumbo". The sales notes say that he's a man on a mission to make music not only for the dancefloor, but also for the living room and while riding a bicycle (DON'T listen to music whilst riding a bicycle, it's dangerous - health & safety ed.). Anyway, "Back & Spine" is a guitars and synths electrock'n'roll affair with vocals by Arni Runar Hlodversson and Loa Hlin Hjalmtysdottir. Tomboy strips the track down and adds more of an electroid sound. On the flip "Igo Ugo" is a deep piece of tech-house, and "Liquid Propagnosia" (featuring Liquid Liquid's Dennis Young tapping merrily on his marimbas) moves in a post-punk disco-house style.

REMIX ARTIST COLLECTIVE
or call him RAC
from stereosubversion
You haven't heard of the Remix Artist Collective (RAC), or at least you haven't heard of them yet. Next time you're in a bar and you hear a song that you think you recognize but has diving synth or a driving pulse behind it, you'll go ask the DJ who it is, and, after acting way too cool, he'll tell you it's the RAC. He'll say their remixes are cutting edge and don't follow the nameless path of club mixes or the kitschy mash-up scene. Ask him if he was creating music this catchy and well-done in college, like lead-man André Allen Anjos is now, and before he can make something up, just smile, sip that drink, and walk away enjoying the electricity of a song you've heard 1,000 times like you've never heard it before.
SSv Staff Writer Jack Hanlon recently caught up with André Allen Anjos about the Collective's story, what music he was into, and how the hell he had a bandmate in the Netherlands whom he had never met.

Whow! Malente
„Whow“ – what a title for a record! Make sure to shout this out aloud! It will tell you much more about the nature of this album than words could... And what we have here in our hands truly is a premiere for the label, because for the very first time Unique Records releases a producer´s album as a an entire artist feature with a total of 31 (!) tracks, containing a state-of-the-art electro DJ set and remixalbum / remixes collection on an awesome double cd – a musical tribute and hommage to the artist, producer, DJ – a true allrounder - Malente and his tremendously huge and fascinating creative output! „Whow“ is, in the entirety, an enthralling block rocking party soundtrack that fires up each floor for 150 minutes with the perfect fuel provided, mixed and remixed by Malente!
CD1 In The Mix features six unreleased tracks and other rare and yet undiscovered versions of quality electro tunes, the remixes CD2 contains 5 previously unreleased interpretations / remixes of essential present & future club smashers all exclusively produced for the „Whow“ album. 4 of those, namely Turntablerocker’s „No Melody“, Moonbootica´s „We 1, 2 Rock“, Mason’s „When Farmers Attack“ and Jabwai feat. Paige with „Sweet Like Shuga“ will be released as a seperate 12inch Vinyl Abum Sampler (UNIQ134-1) so watch out for that bastard! Everything else about Malente is now to follow:
Malente: a guy who has step by step and gradually become a leading figure amongst the younger generation of DJs without undergoing big hypes or buzzes. Since more than 8 years malente releases tracks for a club audience and beyond and plays an active role in the underground (dance) scene. In that sense malente has created his own personal brand and identity - as a brave man throughout and with an even better dj credibility within the club and underground world. If you want to describe Malente´s stilistic and musical development in one phrase then it can be no other than this one: originally having started with breaks he´s now arrived in the straighter electro world and has created his very unique trademark as a dj and producer – and this honestly is not one of those stupid promotional slogans but an established and proven fact! After having released several 12´´s on Moonbootique (Moonbootica´s label), Luscious Sounds (the label of german techno artist Azzido da Bass) and UK´s Splank! records plus a total of four albums and innumerabel 12´´s on his home label Unique Malente has not just come up with his fifth album just like that but has created somethig very special fo all of us to share:
„Whow“
For as long as he has been producing music, Malente has been DJing and traveling around the globe. He has played on festivals like Shambalah (Canada), Good Vibrations & Field Day (Australia), Sziget (Hungary), Nature One, Loveparade, Melt! (Gemany) and rocked clubs like the legendary Cocoon (Frankurt), Watergate (Berlin), Neidklub (Hamburg), Antenna (San Francisco), BedSupperClub (Bangkok), Chinese Laudry (Sydney), Nitsa (Barcelona), Sugarfactory (Amsterdam), Hi-Fi (Calgary), Rock City (Novosibirsk) with his tough Electro Sets.
“Whow´s” In The Mix CD1 demonstrates why Malente is such a sought-after jockey. Containing rare, unreleased and exclusively produced tracks and remixes of artists like Eyerer & Chopstick feat. Zdar, Rinocerose, Yuksek, Claude Von Stroke, The Subs, Speaker Junk, The Aston Shuffle, Teenage Bad Girl, Boy 8-Bit, Acid Jacks, Philipe De Boyar, Touché, Jaimie Fanatic, Mascotte, Markus Lange & Daniel Dexter the CD is just a perfect example of Malente’s energetic and positive DJ-sets!
Ever since releasing his own tracks, Malente has been remixing other artists music and repertoire, including Bob Sinclar (2001), Coburn (2007), Louie Austen (2005), DJ Friction (2004), Bleach Eatin Pimps (2007), Phonat (2007) and Shout Out Out Out Out (2006). The Remixes CD2 on “Whow” not only features his best remixes between 2001 and 2007, Malente also produced five exclusive tracks for that collection! Just too bad that other great works and remixes for artists such as Freddy Fresh, Der Plan, Groove Rebels couldn´t be featured no more...

Vegas Deluxe edition
from progressive-sounds.com
Marking its 10th anniversary, Jordan and Kirkland have reassessed and readdressed the long-player that started it all with VEGAS (DELUXE EDITION), which will be released via Geffen/UMe on September 18.
For those weary of purchasing 'Vegas' again, this Deluxe Edition is quite a bit different. The first disk offers a fresh mastering of the original 10 tracks, while the second CD highlights a selection of rare and live recordings plus new mixes of classic 'Vegas' tracks from remixers such as MSTRKRFT, Hyper, Sta, Deadmau5, Koma & Bones, and many more.
In their decade-long career, THE CRYSTAL METHOD have sold over a million albums, scored a Grammy nomination and collaborated with everyone from Ozzy Osbourne to Scott Weiland to Ol’ Dirty Bastard. They headlined the Hollywood Bowl, rocked Coachella and played a fashion show in Milan for Donatella Versace. Meanwhile, their songs appeared in countless video games, movies and television series. Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, who are THE CRYSTAL METHOD, even spent a surreal night in the Los Angeles County Jail. But before any of that happened, they made Vegas, their debut album from 1997. Marking its 10th anniversary, Jordan and Kirkland have reassessed and readdressed the long-player that started it all with VEGAS (DELUXE EDITION), which will be released via Geffen/UMe on September 18.
The two-disc deluxe set offers a fresh mastering of the original ten songs on the first CD. The second CD highlights a selection of rare and live recordings plus new mixes of classic Vegas tracks from remixers personally chosen by the duo such as Paul Oakenfold, MSTRKRFT, Hyper, Sta, Deadmau5, Koma & Bones, Tom Real vs. The Rogue Element and Myagi. Also included is the original 1993 version of the Vegas single “Comin’ Back” with the video for the album version along with the video for "Busy Child." Preceding the deluxe edition’s release, "Busy Child" (Sta remix) will be available on iTunes as of August 28.
Vegas put the Las Vegas natives at the center of an electronic music scene previously occupied almost exclusively by trailblazing Brits such as Underworld, The Prodigy and Groove Armada. Inspired in equal parts by Jordan and Kirkland’s late night outings in the early days of the Los Angeles rave scene and their reassuringly humdrum upbringing in the Las Vegas suburbs listening to everything from disco to hip hop to metal, Vegas is a different kind of techno record. It’s got soul. "One thing people have been telling us for the past 10 years is that Vegas was the first thing to get them into electronic music," Jordan says. "We just came up with a sound that bridged the gap between alternative and electronic music."

Mixed by Boon & Gunjah
poorly translated
Here one can speak calmly of an excellent Compilation,
in addition there is not only this, still a fantastic mix
CD by Gunjah and DJ Boon.
The Compilation was put together again personally by Northern Lite
and contains pieces of the "Sweety" Chapeau claque, Black Strobe,
apparatus, The World Domination, the Sonic boom foundation,
Gunne and numerous Remixes and new tracks of Northern Lite themselves.
Here no boring arises, change and deep sense, with the completely
certain message, hurry ahead of boys always and one is on no account
disappointed here. Then the mix of Gunjah and DJ Boon is still
the I dot(?), more than one hour, fully of sound in scene sedate pieces
of TrentemØller, about electrochemistry, there to the
Cologne macho-one to Superpitcher and a huge number of pieces
from the house 1st. Decade. Nice one!
nice one indeed

David Gilmour Girls - Vultures
The new advance copy of Vultures to be released soon is out. Amazing progressive electronic rocky music in the "so far" 8 track album. For sure the retail version is going to include a few more tracks. Giving some tribute to david gilmour itself DGG are going all the way with progressive arrengements and beatiful use of guitars and keys. a must have for any relish, eskimo, whichita supporter.
RELISH RECORDS / HEADMAN´s superb own Label. The
head of Relish is Robi Insinna, otherwise known as
Headman, or Manhead. He met the David Gilmour
Girls when spinning in Amsterdam & after hearing
their track he instantly snapped it up for his
label. David Gilmour Girls are Robin and Jasper,
better known as members of 'Oil', one of the
Netherlands most successful punk bands.
BIOGRAPHY
David Gilmour Girls started out as a project of Dutchmen Robin van der Kaa and Jasper Uhl while playing together in the rockband Oil, with whom they'd spent several years recording and touring Europe and the United States. It became their primary focus after Oil disbanded in 2004, at the same time also expanding from a studio outfit to playing live. Drawing from such a diverse musical background created a sound that's hard to pin down - using partly seventies psychedelic rock, partly new wave, partly raw disco, using live instruments just as much as electronica, but never losing sight of the dancefloor. It has been described as 'an ever-evolving wall of sound to lose yourself in. It's drugged up & tranced out.' and 'Led Zeppelin meets Moroder'
Their first recordings attracted the attention of Robi Insinna's (a.k.a Headman) Relish Records, who consequently signed the duo. In 2004 the debut single 'Crackhousewarmingparty' was released, including a Rub 'n' Tug remix of the title track. The follow-up 'Heavy Metal Music Magazines', which included two originals and a Motiivi:Tuntematon (Timo Kaukolampi of OPL Bastards/Annie fame) remix, came out a year later.
November 2006 saw the release the Relish Records label compilation, including two brand new DGG tracks, and early 2007 the third 12" 'Crimson as Murder' will be released.
In the meantime the DGG did not only focus on original work, but were asked to do remixes for several other acts including Ajello (Relish), Linus Loves (Breastfed), Liquid Liquid percussionist Dennis Young, Hardrock Striker and even Roxy Music.
David Gilmour Girls just finished their debut album ‘VULTURES’ for Relish, set for release in summer 2007, and co-host a bi-monthly club night in Amsterdam called ‘Last Night On Earth’.
